Scene 12 – Guthries Tavern
The Three Kings need to take a break. With their next stop on their journey, they need to get refreshed. Where can they sit back, relax with each other, and enjoy a casual bite to eat?
Many associates told them, “Stop by Guthries Tavern. That’s where friends meet up in the neighborhood.” But alas, when they arrived, they found the doors closed.
So many places that enchanted our days and evenings have closed due to the pandemic. With their retirement, the city has lost a part of itself this year. We’ve taken for granted that an entire industry did more than just supply us with food, they supplied us with the space that nurtured our friendships. Guthries Tavern is just one of many eating and drinking establishments that have not survived. We mourn their loss and long for their return. The Three Kings do as well. For now, they must move on, tired and weary from their long journey.
God bless all who are in the restaurant industry for they do more than just dole out consumable products, they carve out the spaces in this world that nourish our soul.
