Scene 8 – The Planetarium

Scene 8 – The Planetarium

The Three Kings make a stop at the Adler Planetarium. We know that they studied the movements of the planets and the stars in the sky. St Matthew’s Gospel tells us that they saw Jesus’ star at its rising and followed its lead until it stopped over the place where the child was. Scholars have speculated that the Christmas star they saw may have been a conjunction, when two planets appear to pass close to each other. This year, on December 21, the planets Jupiter and Saturn will appear the closest they’ve been for nearly 400 years. If it’s clear enough, perhaps we can look up into the sky and see something similar to what they saw.

Heavenly God, bless all scientists who help unravel the mysteries of the universe. May all newly
found knowledge illuminate our understanding and guide us to you, the source of all truth.
Amen.
