Imagine the array of emotions the woman must have felt when others accused her of being a sinner. Guilt, shame, embarrassment, fear, confusion. Then think of what she must have thought when she saw Jesus. What was this man doing writing on the ground with his finger. Would he even lift that finger to help her out? When he does and all of her accusers leave, what does she feel when she is standing alone with Jesus. She must have been overwhelmed that this man was kind to her when everyone else was not. His invitation to carry on with her life must have felt like a second chance, a second chance she never thought she would have. Of all her emotions, she must felt deep appreciation for this encounter with Jesus that allowed her to keep going.
