This message is to inform parishioners and friends of Saint Andrew Parish about the presence of the Chicago Fire Department at Addison and Paulina Sunday night, January 14, 2024.
The Chicago Fire Department responded to a call reporting smoke coming from the rectory of Saint Andrew Parish at 3546 N. Paulina around 5:10pm this evening.
Thank you to the Chicago Fire Department for their prompt response.
In walking through the building, the Chicago Fire Department discovered that there was no fire.
The increased amount of smoke from Saint Andrew’s rectory is excess steam venting from our newly installed boilers. Anyone passing by in previous years would not have seen anything similar because there were no boilers. Anyone not knowing about the change may have easily assumed it was smoke from a fire.
Thank you to all parishioners and neighbors for your vigilance and concern to call in any observations that seem abnormal in and around our campus.
We deeply appreciate that we are all watching out for each other, especially in challenging times such as the freezing temperatures we now face! Let’s continue to be vigilant and to respond with concern!
A very endearing part of this visit from the Chicago Fire Department was the fact that Fr. Sergio’s brother was the firefighter who had the courage to walk down the aisle of the main church in the middle of the 5:00pm Mass in order to get the attention of staff to assist with the walk-thru. This happened while Fr. Sergio was saying Mass and had a homily built around the example of his brother (and others) who inspire others through their selfless actions. We are very much in the care of the Romo family at Saint Andrew!
