Jesus’ love and desire to bring us into relationship with himself are beautifully present in today’s Gospel. First, we see Jesus’ generous love for his friends in providing them with a miraculous catch of fish and in preparing breakfast for them. At the end of this Gospel passage, Jesus’ exchange with Peter to “feed my sheep” points to his care and concern those who follow him throughout history. We are invited to put ourselves i Peter’s shoes, as Jesus looks into his eyes and, knowing him to the core, asks tenderly, “Do you love me?” Jesus words are not an accusation but an invitation to respond in kind, to turn from the fear and shame of that night and embrace love himself in the morning light. How do we respond under Jesus’ gaze?
