Scene 1 – The Chicago Skyline

The Saint Andrew Parish “Journey to Jesus” starts at the edge of the city of Chicago. We look upon a city that has seen unprecedented challenges. Violence and shootings have increased. Buildings once bustling with activity are quieted. More than once the business along major streets have been boarded up to prevent looting from riots or in the cleanup from the chaos that followed.

Is this our beloved city? Is there where we once danced in the streets to celebrate the victory of a World Series or leisurely reclined to outdoor concerts in the cool of a summer evening?

What wisdom leads the Three Kings to find the Christ child here? Should they not turn around and go back from whence they came?

And yet they seek Jesus in our streets. May our sojourn with them lead us to see the presence of Christ in our midst as well, and when we find Him, lay down our gifts in the service of his divine presence.

God bless our city. Help us to continue our journey day by day to be more like a city that reflects the Reign of God so that we might attest in this lifetime to what we await in the next.  AMEN.
