The first athletic director was the former Chicago Bear, Burney Masterson. His assistant was a young boxing expert and former CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) champion named Al Prislinger. Prislinger soon took over all athletic duties for the next 35 years. He was a strict advocate for the importance of physical fitness among youths. He worked tirelessly at Saint Andrew with a student class annual gym show extravaganza and boxing tournaments. The gym became his home away from home.
