Confirmation Sponsor – Candidate Meeting 2025

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this meeting between Confirmation Sponsors and Candidates. Following the contents of this webpage serves as a way of making up the meeting that was held on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Please arrange a time for the sponsor and candidate to meet. This could be in person, over Zoom, over the phone, etc. Please take appropriate precautions for social distancing as is necessary.

When you have arranged a time to meet. Please watch the videos found on this webpage in order. After each video, stop and have a conversation between the candidate and the sponsor. At the end, the sponsor is asked to follow a link to complete an online form indicating that you have completed this meeting.

Introduction

Please use the following questions to have a conversation of at least 4-5 minutes between the sponsor and the candidate.

Why did you choose this person to be your sponsor for Confirmation? What do you hope to learn from this person as your sponsor?

Why did you say “yes” to be this candidate’s sponsor? What do you think you can add to this person’s life as a Catholic by being sponsor?

Spiritual Life

What do you think it means to be “spiritual?”

Many people in society say that they feel “spiritual” and not “religious.” To be Confirmed  is to be both. How does the practice of the Catholic faith make you aware of the Holy Spirit?

How can you continue to strengthen you awareness of the spiritual life through and after Confirmation?

Prayer Formation

What are the ways that you currently and actively pray?

What are ways you can commit to each other as sponsor/candidate to continue to improve your prayer life?

Religious Literacy

What have both of you done to improve your understanding of the teachings and history of the Church?

How will you commit to learning more about the teachings, understanding, and history of the Church during the next 5 years?

What questions or concerns do you have about the Faith that you still are trying to understand?

Service Learning

What have I learned through my experience of helping others thus far? What can I still do to complete my “Serving Moments?”

What do I think Jesus wants me to continue to do to help other people as I commit myself to be a Christian through Confirmation?

Community Life

How have I learned to value more deeply the people I have come to know through the Church community?

What might I do to better know and appreciate the members of the Church community?

Final Questions

Why do you want to be Confirmed?

Why or why not do you think the reason you gave to be Confirmed is a good reason.

How will you commit to being a disciple of Jesus Christ in your everyday life as a Confirmed Catholic?

Completion Form

When the sponsor and candidate have completed their conversations. The sponsor is asked to complete the form below. (Part of the reason for this form is so that we have correct spellings of names for Confirmation records)

In addition to your name, the candidates name, and your email, you will need to know the name of the candidate’s patron saint of Confirmation. Please ask them if you do not currently know this. You might also ask them what they know about this saint and why they chose the saint.
