Scene 7 – The Shrine of Mother Cabrini
It has been a tiring journey for the Three Kings. They have decided to spend the night in Lincoln Park, next to the North Pond to water their animals. As the Star still faithfully leads, they need to take some time to pray. They find the National Shrine of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, at 2520 N Lakeview Ave, a blessing for offering their thanks to God. Here is not only the chapel, but also Mother Cabrini’s convent room, (originally part of the now-demolished Columbus Hospital, which she founded in 1905, and where she died in 1917.)
Mother Cabrini, The Universal Patron of Immigrants in the Catholic Church, was known for her love of God and her service to his people. After founding the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Italy, she embarked to America in 1889 on a mission to establish a warm welcome to all immigrants, as still felt in this shrine today. Our Three Kings traveling from distance countries are welcomed indeed.
Saint Mother Cabrini who cared for the sick, the dying, the poor, and the immigrant. Pray for us that we may expound about these virtues in our own lives.
