Scene 13 – Kateri Center
On their journey to the manger, the Three Kings make a stop at the St. Kateri Center of Chicago. Located at St. Benedict Parish, the St. Kateri Center of Chicago is a place where the Native American community in Illinois can practice their cultural ways of praying within the Catholic Church. It is through these cultural expressions that American Indians can encounter God and experience a loving community as the family of God.
The Three Kings represent people from various cultures who searched out the Christ Child that unites all peoples of every language and way of life. But the unity that Christ brings does not mean uniformity. The rich tapestry of human cultures is a direct reflection of the inexhaustible complexities of God’s divinity. Christ, who unites the divine and human natures without confusion, without change, without division, without separation can guide all cultures to find the seemingly illusive balance between unity and diversity.
Oh Great Spirit, who’s breath gives life and gives order to all of creation, open our eyes and give
us sight, so that we may always see your Spirit dancing within all cultural expressions and
traditions.
