We are pleased to welcome our new associate pastor at Saint Andrew Parish. Fr. Melchior Zhao has been assigned to Saint Andrew parish as an extern priest. Like previous extern priests that have served our community, he will join Fr. Sergio and the pastoral team in serving the sacramental and spiritual needs of our community. God has blessed us with his presence, rich with experience and insight. Let us offer him a warm welcome as we read some words from him about his new assignment:
— My name is Fr. Melchior Zhao. I was born in Jan 5 1974 China and I am the second youngest in a family of five. My youngest sister is a Sister of Presentation Congregation in Shanghai diocese. I was ordained in September 7 1997. After ordination I served in the Cathedral of Nanchang. From 2003 to 2008 I studied in Ireland graduating with a MA in Leadership and Pastoral Care. On my return to China I worked in the National Seminary in the role of director of Spirituality Department. Through the sponsorship of the Maryknoll Fathers I studied at the university of Loyola from 2016 to 2019 graduating with a degree in Pastoral Counseling. During this time I stayed in the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes. Fr. Michael Shanahan was pastor. Returning to China I worked as a counselor, Retreat Director, spiritual director while helping out in my local parish at weekends. I enjoy reading, music, physical exercise and meeting with friends as I am a social person. I am truly looking forward to becoming a member of the St. Andrews Parish Team, so serving you the parishioners and together growing in our faith.
