Ash Wednesday Celebrations

Safety measures have temporarily changed the way we celebrate Masses and rituals. Ash Wednesday and the distribution of ashes is no exception. Here are the ways that Saint Andrew Parish will celebrate Ash Wednesday 2021 on February 17, 2021.

General Distribution of Ashes

Ashes will be distributed on the church steps or just inside the doors, depending on the weather, on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.  No reservation is required.  Face coverings must be worn.

Distribution will be between 6:30am – 8:30am and 1:30pm – 3:00pm.

When you arrive at church, please wait in a socially-distanced line outdoors on the sidewalk. Approach the minister as directed, wearing your face covering at all times.

The minister will place ashes on your forehead using a single-use cotton swab. In the interest of following COVID-19 precautions, the archdiocese has approved the application of ashes on foreheads with a Q-tip. A fresh Q-tip will be used for every person.

At-Home Prayer Service

With current safety precautions in place, our capacity for Ash Wednesday services this year will be extremely limited. Recognizing that many will not be able to attend Mass or in-person ash distribution because of this, we are providing an alternative way to receive ashes by mail. Look for a mailing to your home in early February.

Once you have received the ashes that have been blessed for your use, come back to this page to follow our at-home prayer service. Sprinkle the ashes on your head when prompted during the service.

Mass with Ash Distribution

One Ash Wednesday Mass will be held at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Reservations are required.

In the interest of following COVID-19 precautions, the archdiocese has approved the application of ashes on foreheads with a Q-tip. A fresh Q-tip will be used for every person.

This Mass will also be live streamed. You can watch live here at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 or a recorded version later that evening.
