If you pass by the front of our school, it is hard to miss the new steps that were installed this summer. The old steps had not just become unattractive, and worn down by age, but they had also become unsafe, and in need of replacing. We would like to thank both the church and school families that made this project possible.

Now that we have received the final bill, we can finally report the total cost. After review by our Facilities and Construction Committee, the contract was awarded to Ward Contracting and Building Restoration, Inc, the contractor with the lowest proposal of $79,865.00. Per Archdiocese of Chicago best practices, a required 10% contingency of $7,986.50 was added to the proposal. amount. Once the old steps had been removed, it was apparent that the piers that hold up the steps were going to need more work than what was initially estimated. This resulted in a $6,024.25 change order increase, making the final total cost of the school steps $85,889.25.

The school steps was the project designated for the 2024 Fund-a-Need, with the goal of raising the necessary $87,851.50. Thanks to many generous donations, we were able to raise $71,825, of which the full amount was applied to the cost of the steps. The remaining balance of $14,064.25 was paid from savings.
